Why You Were Born

Why You Were Born

By Art Rayburn

In the life of almost every person there comes a time when they wonder… “What on earth am I here for? Why was I born?” There’s always a few exceptions to this rule… but most individuals believe life should have meaning… and so they wonder why they were born. The answer is quite simple: you were created for God.

Speaking of Jesus the Christ, the bible says…

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have
been created through Him and for Him.

Col. 1:16 (NASB-U) (Emphasis mine)

According to this scripture… all things, including you and me, were created through
Jesus and for Jesus! As we study the Bible further we can see that this is broken down
into 3 specific areas.

You were created to Love God. If all you strive for is to make the most money
possible, accumulate the most “stuff”, or fill your life with only pleasure… then you’re
missing the whole point. You were not created for selfishness. You were created to love
God

He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and most important commandment.

Matt 22:37-38 (HCSB)

We express our love for God in two ways: Through a Personal Relationship with Jesus
Christ and through Worship.  The most important thing you can ever do is to submit your life to Jesus Christ and
humbly accept His grace and salvation. For details on how to do this, go to www.gotlife.org.
You also need to get involved with a Bible Believing Church. We can worship God in
our own private quiet times… but it’s also very important to worship God along with
other Christ Followers. We were not created to be “Lone Ranger” Christians.

You were also created to Love People. As Jesus is explaining to the religious leaders of
His day the most important commandment, He goes on to say

… The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.   All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Matt 22:39-40 (HCSB)

Loving God and loving people go hand in hand. And sometimes the best way we express
our love for God is by loving other people. The one thing to remember here is that we’re
not talking about a “feeling.” Loving people is not based on how they make YOU Feel.
True love is expressed through ACTIONS! “Ministry” and “Mission” opportunities
should be made available through your local church. I encourage you to get involved!

Another way to express love to others is to simply treat your family, friends, neighbors
and co-workers with Kindness and Respect!

You were created to Grow in Christ. God does not want you to remain spiritually
ignorant.

Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 (HCSB)

Christians hold the truth to what it takes to be made right with God. But the sad reality is
that most Christians know very little about God and His will. The Bible is God’s
Word… no ifs, ands or buts! Whenever you read the Bible it’s as if you’re hearing
directly from God’s lips! Read it! Study it! And learn how to interpret it properly.

God will not open up the top of your head and pour in His knowledge. As we read the Bible and apply those truths to our lives… God’s Spirit will bring us wisdom and transform us into the likeness of His Son, Jesus the Christ.

Some people, including myself, find it very helpful to read some kind of devotional book along with the Bible. I would caution you to be very careful when choosing a devotional book. The Tele-Evangelist world is filled with charlatans, who twist scripture and fill your mind with half-truths… that ultimately lead you away from God, rather then draw you closer to God.  There are two authors I would Highly Recommend: Charles Swindol and Max Lucado.  There are other good authors available… but I know the books written by these two authors are very solid!

Love God… Love People… and Grow in Christ: that’s why you were created. I will
expand on each of these topics in the months to come… but the information in this article
should bring you hope and give you a good “starting point.”
